Korean War Memorial

For our last culture class lesson, we took a field trip to the Korean War Memorial. We met at Samgakji station exit 12.

Walk down the road with all the Korean flags. It's close by.

Walk towards this statue across the street.

Outside of the memorial.

You could probably spend a lot of time just around the grounds.

This is in front, surrounded by statues of soldiers on the left, civilians on the right (not pictured).

Go up these steps to the museum.

We were given a tour in English by an older Korean man who was just a few years old when the war started. He told his own memories, as well as what his parents told him about it later, which made it much more meaningful.

When the war started, this was all the Koreans had to fight with - throwing grenades from small planes (this was life-size).

This flag was used during the war. You can still see the bullet holes in the flag.

There was a unit of Korean soldiers taking a tour right after us, so it was strange, yet fitting, to see the modern solders alongside the history.

I didn't have time that day to see everything, but that was one big drum.

View of the plaza from the stairs in front of the museum.

I think that museum would be so interesting. One could probably spend several days there to see everything. Your Uncle Wesley (your Grandpa Chadburn's brother) fought over there.

That is a neat place to go. That was cool to see the modern soldiers in there. That's neat that Uncle Wesley fought over there.
