Special Edition: my own personal poo paper bucket

What's that little guy peeking from behind the toilet, you ask? Well, let me tell you...

This bucket is in the bathroom of my guesthouse. Many korean people think if you flush toilet paper down the toilet, you'll clog it up easily, especially in older buildings. Not every place, mind you, but I'd say about half the places I've been. So what to do with soiled paper? Put it in the designated bucket.

Naturally, as I'm a westerner, I'm a bit skeptical of this, since I haven't ever clogged a toilet with merely paper before, and it's not like I'm using half a roll every go. But it'd be just my luck that the one time I stubbornly put my paper down the toilet would be the time it gets clogged and I'd just be the rude American that can't follow directions or respect the culture. Dilemma.

At least in my room, I don't have to share this bucket with anyone else, which is slightly comforting, because it becomes a different story when it's a public restroom. Nope, don't think too hard about it.

I like to think of myself as pretty understanding and appreciative of cultural differences in customs, but some things are harder to get used to. Like poo paper buckets. And old people hocking loogies everywhere. I just can't with either.
